What we do

WE SUPPORT WOMEN AND CHILDREN TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL!

Here are some key elements that can be included in a security plan:

RISK IDENTIFICATION

Recognize the abuser’s behavioral patterns.

Assess the times when violence tends to occur and the situations that can trigger it.

SAFE SHELTERS

Identify safe places to go (family, friends, shelters).

Research domestic violence shelters in your area.

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTATION

Maintain essential documents, such as IDs, passports, Social Security cards, and legal documents related to property or child custody. Keep cash and bank accounts safe.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

Create a list of trusted contacts, such as family, friends, or professionals who can offer help.

Save emergency numbers, including helplines and the police.

EMERGENCY SCENARIOS

Create an escape plan that includes safe routes to get out of the house quickly.

Practice how and when to escape, and have a place to go.

COMMUNICATION SECURITY

Using a phone or device not controlled by the abuser to communicate with friends, family, or support services.

Consider using secure apps or platforms to communicate.

USEFUL APPLICATIONS AND TOOLS

Install security apps that send alerts to emergency contacts.

Use technologies that provide an alarm or monitoring system.

PLANNING THE DAILY ROUTINE

Vary your routes and times when leaving home or going to work. Inform friends or colleagues about the situation so they can be alert.

EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT

Seek support from therapists or support groups to deal with emotional trauma.

Consider sessions with professionals specializing in domestic violence.

DOCUMENT THE ABUSE

Keep a detailed record of any incidents of abuse, including dates, times, and descriptions of what happened. This can be helpful if you decide to pursue legal action.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Helplines: Know and have local domestic violence helpline numbers handy.

Legal Advice: Consult with an attorney to understand your legal rights, including protection orders.
